Details are both sketchy and somewhat confused. Some passengers have told reporters that a man who got into the cockpit of the Brazilian registered aircraft was wearing an airline badge.
They also say the door was open.
Reports say that there were yells and screams from inside the cockpit and then two stewardesses came out, asking for help. One of them, apparently, was trying to drag the man out by his feet.
The plane had left Montevideo, Uruguay and was on its way to Sao Paolo when it suddenly lurched to the right and the pilot used the intercom to call for assistance, say reports.
Some twenty minutes later, with the man "subdued" in the back of the plane, it landed at Porto Alegre in southern Brazil.
It's not the only security scare in the past few days: a taser gun was found on board a Virgin Australia domestic flight on Friday 10th February. It had been concealed in a case designed for a small camera. The camera case fell out of an overhead bin but no-one claimed it when crew asked who it belonged to. A stewardess opened the case to get more information on the "camera" and found the taser gun hidden. The flight was delayed and five people were removed from the flight, local reports say. Four returned and the flight resumed.
