The website of Irish recruitment company RecruitIreland.Com is back on line after hackers broke into their site and stole names and e-mail addresses. The company's response? Close the site and make a very public announcement. Good job, so to speak.
At 13:50 on the 8th February, RecruitIreland.Com discovered that its website had been attacked by hackers. By 2pm, the website was off-line and a statement explaining the situation, that external security experts and the police had been brought in and that the Data Protection Commissioner had been notified.
The company's investigations showed that the only data accessed was names and e-mail addresses with no other information being accessed including user names and passwords.
But the fraudsters were already "at it," it appears with some users (and control addresses) began to receive suspicious job "offers" which are either frauds or money laundering schemes.
