Business Crime: Suburban Propane warns of cheque fraud
Suburban Propane of Whippany, New Jersey, USA has issued a warning notice about a fraud in which victims receive a fake cheque bearing the company's name.

The company warns that the scam involves using its company name. Victims receive written notice that they have been selected to receive a "Prize Winning Payout" of USD50,000.
Attached to the written notice is what appears to be a Suburban Propane-issued cheque for USD3,100 which the recipients are instructed to cash and return the money to a London-based tax officer, using Western Union Money Transfer, in order to cover the required "Non-Resident Government Tax."
If victims present the cheque and draw against it before its fraudulent nature comes to light, they lose their money.
Suburban Propane management says that it is working with the appropriate authorities to try to stop the fraud and asks that anyone who receives a notice as described above, to fax a copy of everything received to (973) 503-9041 and contact your local police.
