Wong was a director of Austpac Projects Pty Limited, a private limited company in Australia.
Austpac Projects was established in 2003 to build housing in Brisbane and received funding from 15 former school friends of Mr Wong.
In the course of its investigation, ASIC found that only one house was constructed and was later sold in November 2004 for AUD340,000. Mr Wong then transferred AUD330,000 to his personal bank account and used this money for his own benefit.
Austpac Projects was placed into liquidation on 30 November 2005. All 15 investors, who were Wong's former school friends, lost their money.
Wong was charged with misappropriating AUD330,000 from Austpac Projects Pty Ltd (Austpac Projects) on 13 November 2004. Mr Wong was sole director of the company at the time of the offence.
Wong was arrested and extradited from Malaysia on 3 August 2009. He did not apply for bail and has been in custody since his extradition. He has been ordered to pay compensation of AUD330,000 to Austpac Projects (in liquidation).
