The Chief Officers' Network - your business advantage / Special Interest / Motorsport / A1GP - Ireland hoist trophy for the first time

With the final race of the season, Mexico, cancelled due to concerns over the risk of widespread swine flu, the season came to a halt earlier than expected with the British round at Brands Hatch.

The series has, this year, been somewhat of a disappointment in some respects. Not all teams were able to start on time - their Ferrari powered cars were not ready in time although quite why that was has not, so far as we are aware, been adequately explained.

And bumbling electronics (not so much different from those afflicting some parts of this year's Ferrari Formula One cars) ruined some races for several drivers early in the season.

But by the end of the series, the cars were seemingly all working as intended, and the teams got down to the serious business of racing.

None of the above detracts from the Irish team's success built on consistently good results all year - although Switzerland had pushed them for the whole season.

A1GP has, until this year's technical problems, provided some of the closest racing in any formula - and now the cars appear to be sorted out, hopefully next year will be back to the excellent standards of previous seasons.
