Given that Massa has almost hit Vettel and dragged his refuelling hose from its mountings injuring one of his pit crew, it's about time that the dubious green light system should be dumped in favour of a lollipop man.
Ferrari are desperate to turn around their fortunes in Fuji. The race for both the drivers' and manufacturers' championship is so far from over that it's turning into a shootout in the last three races of the season.
But it's Toyota that are most anxious to prove something in the race at their theoretical home track. Although most of the Toyota team is based in Germany, with some parts in the UK and a small part in Japan, Toyota's car plants are based near the Fuji track.
"It is not only a home race for the team but it is my home race personally," said Tadashi Yamashina, chairman and team principal.
Next year, the race returns to Suzuka, which Jenson Button says he "can't wait to return to."
But it's Hamilton that is most effusive: "I love Japan," he said in a pre-race press conference.
