F1: it's a numbers game
With McLaren now back towards the green light at the end of the pit lane, their vacant slot at the other end was expected to be taken up by Force India, last year's constructors' tail enders. But Formula One is all about surprises.

As the signs went up over the pit garages during the final stages of preparation for this Sunday's race, a new name appeared : that of Brawn GP and its drivers Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello.
It's the fact that it's a more than just a new name that has resulted in the two former Honda drivers being put in the last two garages in the pit: technically, BrawnGP is a new team. One reason for that is that the deadline for Honda to confirm participation in the 2009 season expired at the end of February - but the new team was not born until 6th March - even though work was plainly being done to ready the cars.
This means that, as a new team, points gained by Honda last year don't count and last year's constructors' points determine racing numbers and garage allocation.
The final entry list has now been published by the FIA - and there is another surprise: Massa has been given seniority above Raikkonen at Ferrari. Raikkonen is reported elsewhere to have said, via his manager, that he would have been happy with a winner-takes-all approach instead of points.
