The new layout at Silverstone was designed to produce a tight twiddly bit in which the field would bunch up and closer racing would result. Someone forgot to tell Jorge Lorenzo who stopped trying to pull away from the pack when is lead reached more than nine seconds, eventually finishing almost seven seconds ahead of second place man.
The new track is long so there are less laps needed to complete a race distance. It still has the awesome high speed straights, mind-blowing corners. Even with the new slow speed section, Lorenzo's average speed was about 175 kph.
In the early stages, Lorenzo raced with Pedrosa but the latter's injuries he soon fell back leaving Lorenzo to race to an imperious victory.
Far behind, a three-way battle for second raged between Dovioso, De Puniet and Hayden - and then Spies joined in after a spirited break away from the third group.
Although the stats show it was Lorenzo's day with pole, fastest lap, new lap record and dominant win, the ride of the day belonged to Casey Stoner who had a disastrous start and was last by the time the pack exited the first corner. He fought an epic battle to finish fifth, half a second behind his team-mate Hayden whose bike lost front-end grip and he struggled in the last two very hot laps. Stoner set the second fastest lap.
